October 9 - October 12
We began the week by working with the third graders to bake pumpkin sheet cake. Students worked in groups to follow a recipe using multiple ingredients. They worked together to use the correct measurements and made sure everyone got to participate. They were so proud of their hard work! There was enough delicious cake to share with the whole lower school and the middle school.
In math this week we continued to focus on number sense by comparing, ordering, and rounding numbers. Next week, we will end our unit on number sense by focusing on addition and subtraction with greater numbers.
To continue our unit "Web of Life," we played Eat or Be Eaten, a card game in which students made food chains. They had to read each card for information before they could use a strategy to make their food chains by either picking a card or stealing one of the other player's cards. Next week we will begin reading two different novels that focus on protecting endangered animals, Hoot by Carl Hiaasen and There's an Owl in the Shower by Jean Craighead George.
We finished our belonging themed community meeting by reflecting on different quotes and writing about how they compared to the themes in the books we read throughout the week.
I look forward to seeing all of you at Pumpkin Carving Night this Friday. Please remember to bring your own tools for carving your pumpkin.
